How to Get Your CHSE™ Certification
Ready to take the next step in your career? Follow these steps to earn your Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE™) credential.
Step 1: Make Sure You Qualify
Before applying, confirm you meet the eligibility requirements:

✅ Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

✅ At least 2 years of experience in a healthcare simulation setting
-
✅ Demonstrated simulation experience focused on learners in healthcare at any level
-
✅ Continued use of simulation in healthcare education, research, or administration within the past 2 years
👉 If you answered “yes” to all four, you’re off to a great start!
Step 2: Apply for Your Exam
Applications are submitted online through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) website. You’ll need to create a profile if you don’t already have one. (Note: SSH membership is not required to apply.)
During the application, you’ll be asked to provide 3 professional references. They’ll receive a Confidential Structured Report of Performance (CSRP) form to evaluate your effectiveness as a healthcare simulation educator. Be sure to notify your references in advance!

$395 USD — SSH, ASPE, and INACSL members

$495 USD — Non-members

Step 3: Schedule Your Exam
Once approved, you’ll get an email from ISO-Quality Testing, Inc. (IQT) with details on how to:

Set up your User ID and Password

Register for your exam

Reschedule if needed

Choose your exam date and location
All CHSE™ exams must be taken at an approved IQT test site.

You’ll have a 90-day window to schedule your exam once approved.
Step 4: Start Studying
Give yourself plenty of prep time—most candidates take 2–3 months to study thoroughly.
