Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator™: What Does It Mean?
Often known by its acronym, CHSE™, a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator is a healthcare educator who is considered an expert in healthcare simulation. CHSEs teach all aspects of healthcare delivery to improve patient safety and strengthen clinical outcomes.
What Does a CHSE™ Do?
A CHSE™ is skilled in:

Developing appropriate simulation scenarios for learners.

Administering simulations in supportive and structured environments.

Leading effective debriefing sessions to enhance the learning experience.
The role is primarily centered on education and teaching. CHSEs provide simulations that help learners and teams strengthen their skills, improve clinical reasoning, and ultimately increase the competency of future healthcare providers.
How Do I Become a CHSE™?
To qualify for CHSE™ certification, you must:

Hold at least a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).

Have a minimum of two years of experience in a healthcare simulation setting.
Once eligibility is confirmed, candidates can apply to take the exam through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) website.
The computerized CHSE™ exam includes 100 scored multiple-choice questions that assess knowledge and expertise in healthcare simulation education.
